The story of an “iconic” PM

3 yrs ago when Dr. Manmohan S. was virtually gifted the post of Prime minister ship, every Tom Dick & Harry articulated paronomasias both within the congress and the opposition about him being the puppet & a dummy PM with reins resting with Sonia Gandhi. No one was ready to acknowledge the fact that the nation had got a well deserving erudite personality at the top position and things could change for the future, with every future PM’s credentials being compared with his impressive ones.

He started showing his clout & firmness with just few months in office through issues like getting Natwar S. expelled when he challenged him & snubbing HRD minister for his domineering decision by keeping non-aided institutions out of OBC quota and later by single handedly formulating the joint mechanism with Pak president. He reinforced the respect and the value he has in his party by making it pseudo mandatory for the Congress to stand by him on the Nuclear Deal issue which he single handedly clinched from US. His significance & purport in the party can be easily assessed by the fact that the party which could have ruled easily for 2 years more is ready to give up the ruling position and go to elections just because of the PM’s cogent stand and the obvious prestige of his associated with the deal.

This positive message means a lot to the congress party and the Indian political system that the men of integrity are respected and not let down even in a system which is seen to be the most doomed one.

“The man of words and actions”, “the man of no nonsense”

The man of words and actions”, “the man of no nonsense”. These aphorisms go extremely well for our PM, Dr. Manmohan S. Few months back when he said that Pakistan is also a victim of terrorism like us, many self appointed analysts and critics tried to make him sound like a kid and novice. The opposition went for his neck and even demanded his resignation on it.
Without too much of wait the reality is in the courtyard for us to see and introspect. From past one week, in the post “lal masjid operation”, Pakistan is being subjected to deadly suicide bombings killing hundreds of innocents. Such episodes of crisis have always loomed over them but the final nail has been drawn into the coffin now. The only difference is, India bears foreign terrorism and the Pakistanis are a victim to home made and cooked terrorism.
After Singh’s 1991 success story following the criticism then also, the surd is poised to make this tenure of his a mark of political integrity and veracity. In no time people will have to acknowledge his views be it making LOC the LOP (see line of piece) or showing concern for Indians arrested in foreign countries.

AppEal To oNe And aLL

This is a sensitive issue to touch but it needs serious introspection and rumination. The development and progression bells are ringing here and there but often a terrorist attack stops us from dancing to this bell's tune. When everything seems fine and mirthful, often a communal color is given to an issue and the region starts burning. Whenever we talk and practice science and technology few myths still cling on to us and stop us from being rational and lucid. Every such disturbing and distracting act takes shelter behind RELIGION.
Right from ages, many wars have been fought over it and till now we are bellicose. Lakhs and crores of innocent people have lost their lives and many have been sidelined just because of their religion. Whatever positives have been given by the religions, has been overwhelmingly shadowed by the negatives. So the question arises why do intelligent and socially active humans need religion as to choose their way of life? Why can't we live being humans rather than being a Hindu, a Muslim or a Sikh?
The problem doesn't lie in the religions but its followers. There are very few who follow and preach religions correctly and with purity. The world now can survive in 2 ways. Either we follow our religions peacefully and fully or we reject them fully.
We at least shouldn't fall prey to the pseudo religion followers known as fanatics as they exist in each and every religion and are parasites to their religion and the healthy, peaceful world.
A sincere appeal to all is that, please act and think humanly, rationally and shed bestiality and pietism.
Aren’t Indians stupid?

For the first time in US history the country’s senate opened with the chanting of the gayatri mantra. Rajan Ved sprinkled few drops of water around the podium from the Ganges before the start of the prayer.
Why do Indians want to show every time that they love their religion? Why can’t religion be practiced where it ought to be? Is the senate the place to do so?
Though some revolted and raised slogans against the act in the senate, majority stayed calm only for the reason that Indian support is most required in the coming US presidential elections and Indian community has the power to reverse the trends.
But it should be clear in our minds that no one would have sincerely liked the act, nor we would have if someone would have sung carols in our assemblies.
We want to shed India’s image of a land of snake charmers but such acts only reinforce it.
A Petrified Step in Right Direction

The ever monolithic Gen. Parvez Musharraf has silenced his critics who recognized him of being soft on Islamic hard liners by successfully executing the “Operation Silence”. The way he has handled the situation, show both his military and governance qualities with a right blend of astuteness and opportunism. We can easily correlate this Pakistan incident with our episode of “Operation Bluestar” and espy various details where Musharraf got it right and our management failed.
The Bluestar was conducted all in secrecy and thus created doubts in general public’s mind whereas the Pak Army ensured media briefing at regular intervals. In sharp contrast to the negotiations held with clerics by Musharraf before the final attack, there was no colloquy in Bluestar’s case. What made things worse in 1984 was that a huge number of pilgrims died in military assault on golden temple. So the difference is this that though Bluestar is considered as a negative and regressive step in Indian history, Operation silence will most probably be seen as a show of strength and state power against the militants.

We need Positive journalism!!

Indians are influenced a lot by the media, either electronic or print. They tend to make their view point & perceptions based on it. So undoubtedly the media men should act & work responsibly. But sadly whole of the media wagon works & thrives on negative & sensational news. You see the headlines of dailies or the breaking news on 24*7 channels, all you'll witness is news like 50 students made to stand in sun, bribe in DTO office, lady burnt by in-laws & lathi charge on protesters. On 26 th jan, our republic day, special inspiring & good programs were expected but all we got were documentaries on 'why we celebrating?', 'what to celebrate for?' & 'india celebrating & bharat reeling'. What impression will this leave on foreigners, budding students & professionals? What will a poor man think now? That I'll remain the same only? Why don't we accept the fact that we are atlast rising & rising fast. Media should encourage positive journalism & help in bringing a feel good factor in people or the shoulders will keep dropping even before carrying the load.

Is this our Kalam?

What hunger of power & fame can do to a widely perceived learned & noble man; can be seen from the recent act of Dr. Kalam clearly "demanding" another term. Earlier he rejected & decried the offer by NDA as his win was impossible because of zero support from any other front. But when he saw the consolidation of the 3 rd front & the NDA in doldrums, he sensed consensus among these two & some possible cross voting from UPA members. This selfishness & astuteness from a man of his stature & caliber wasn't expected & is an act of sheer oddity.
UPA & the left have projected a right, clean & experienced candidate in the shape of Mrs. Pratibha Patil & they should stand by her & make her the 1 st ever woman president of India. Some may label it as tokenism of women empowerment but tokenism only leads to trendism & after a PM from minority community, UPA is up in front of setting up historic examples.

THE REAL LOSERS?

Few things like this effort of mine have already been drafted & printed but still a thing has been found missing in them. Whole nation is disappointed & angry on the cricket demi gods for such an early exit from the premier cricketing tournament. Rightly so, every Indian is expected to feel bad & criticize the team but not in the fashion it is being done or must say being made to do by our electronic (24x7) media. The very channels which exalted the players to the status of super celebrities & encashed their popularity through daily 5 hour series like "windies ki jung" etc are now keen on making merry by degrading them to the fullest. Many so called news channels have self proclaimed cricket specialists (themselves good for nothing players of their times) who are seen brazenly abusing the present players. Our cricket team men are being labeled "losing rats", "shameless creatures" & much more degrading. It clearly sends out a message that we are a frustrated lot of people who feel happy & satisfied to blame fellow losing Indians while rudely ignoring the rationales & responsibilities. Protesting on streets while tearing & burning the player posters, taking out their dummy funeral processions & damaging their houses are some acts which in no way show the love, passion or the spirit of the fans for the game.
It only depicts that we are bad losers. The punishment if any for the players is ought to be given to them automatically through reduction in endorsements & expulsion from team.
Let's be realistic & act with maturity. Both the masses & the media.
